PlayStation Network Services Gradually Coming Back Online

PlayStation Network services are gradually coming back online for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, according to the official PlayStation Support Twitter account.



At the time of writing, IGN team members in Europe could access core services, such as the PlayStation store, Friends list and game servers. Team members in Australia were unable to access the features.

When AL Lowe started making games for the Apple II he did so as an enthusiast, creating educational games that he could enjoy with his son. His titles were very much built from the same mould as the early Sierra graphic adventure games he’d played, and they quickly became a success. Along with his wife he would sell them at conventions and via mail order to educators and other enthusiasts. Eventually he went to the Applefest computer convention in 1982 where he was able to brush shoulders with the biggest players in software publishing at the time, including the likes of Sierra and Broderbund.


“Every publisher in the business told us ‘You don’t want to be a publisher. You want to be a designer. Let us sell these games for you so you can design more games.’” Al tells me. “At the time Sierra was the biggest publisher, did the most advertising and had the biggest sales. So it seemed obvious that we should do a deal with them. So we did. Plus, they were the closest to where we lived.”

Dark Souls 2 Director On Dark Souls VR and Future Titles

Dark Souls 2 director Yui Tanimura believes the Dark Souls universe is a good fit for virtual reality content, he told IGN in an interview via translator.


“This isn't something that we are looking into detail yet, or at least right now, but I agree that the world of Dark Souls 2 is something that has a very visceral element to it,” says Tanimura, in response to if Dark Souls virtual reality was something that developer From Software was experimenting with.



“It’s mostly sort of on the realistic side, so I think that experience with the headset is something that would go well with Dark Souls as content,” Tanimura adds, agreeing when we mused that taking part in Souls combat using a VR headset in conjunction with motion controllers would be an outrageous experience.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gets New Sniper-Friendly Mode

An all-new, team-based multiplayer game mode called One Shot is currently available to play in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.


A sniper-only mode, One Shot features reduced health and several "highly-specific classes" armed with a variety of perks, scorestreaks, and Exo abilities. All five of the classes have their own unique names, including Hard Scope, Zoomed, 4X, Ace, and Irons. Visit the announcement blog post to see the unique features of each class.


In each loadout, players are armed only with the MORS bolt-action railgun sniper rifle and no secondary weapon. Developer Sledgehammer Games warns players to "make sure your shots count."
