Total War: Attila Will Have You on the Run from the Huns

“Roamer, wanderer, nomad, vagabond – call me what you will!” the famous Gothic leader and despoiler of Rome, Alaric, is famously quoted as saying. Or maybe that was Metallica. I get them confused a lot.


In a first for the strategy series, Total War: Attila will allow certain factions to roam, wander, and vagabond without being tied to a permanent settlement. Such is only appropriate to model what is often called the Migration Period of the 4th to 8th centuries, when dozens of (mostly Germanic) tribes were displaced by the movement of the Huns into Europe. These warlike tribes were forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in the lands of their neighbors. Said neighbors would either successfully kick the invaders out, or be crushed, and have to pick up and leave themselves. The end result was a lot of disgruntled people with axes, bouncing around the continent fighting each other and the already-collapsing Roman Empire for every bit of non-Hun-despoiled dirt.
